Assignment 6

1) Identify one of the examples of ancient marriage described by the author and discuss how it differed from the "one man, one woman idea" of marriage

An ancient example of marriages, that I found most interesting which was discussed by the author, is the people from China located in the Southwestern part, where the people are known as Na. When married you do not live with your significant other or with your children that you may have had. Instead you live with your brothers and or sisters called sibling clusters. During this time, if your sister concieves a child during the passing of a visor, then the brothers help raise that child. This is very different from the way we know, one man, one woman idea of marriage.
2) Among which two groups has postponing marriage become the most likely? Why?

Poor women, because in this group, both parties need to be fully committed and enter in with the knowledge and understanding that they have significant incomes and savings in order for the marriage to work.
Middle-Class women because, there is an increase in opportunities within the labor force for women. Also, they have access to higher education thus leading to postponing marriages.
